Did You Know? – Driving In Maryland

The radio “said” today that Maryland was one of the few states that didn’t have a law requiring drivers to turn on their turn signals while changing lanes.

Huh. For the last five years, we thought Maryland drivers were rude.

I know the picture of the dog has nothing to do with this post. It’s Friday.

It’s Totally Irrelevant Friday on Life Signatures!

  2. Clare says:

WEIRD! Thats such a huge pet peeve of mine! Its not like its work to use a turn signal!!!! Good to know!

  3. My wife likes to tell me “You know this car comes stock with turn signals” when I forget to use mine! She can be funny like that. Sometimes…

I don’t know what radio station you were listening to, but the information is totally wrong. The law requires:

    (b) When signal lamps required.- Each motor vehicle in use on a highway shall be equipped with and the required signal given by signal lamps, if the distance from the center of the top of the steering post to the left outside limit of the body, cab, or load of the vehicle is more than 24 inches.
    (c) Size requirements.- Each motor vehicle in use on a highway shall be equipped with and the required signal given by signal lamps if, for any vehicle or combination of vehicles, the distance from the center of the top of the steering post to the rear limit of the body or load is more than 14 feet.

Sorry, it’s the legal side of me. :-)

WHOOPS! There I go again, open mouth, insert foot! Didn’t read your posting correctly. I looked up “making a turn.”

In changing lanes, I’d bet 10-1 (if a policeman were in a bad mood) that you could be cited for reckless driving or under:
“Required signals.- A person may not, if any other vehicle might be affected by the movement, turn a vehicle until he gives an appropriate signal in the manner required by this subtitle.”

LOL if the law were meant to be clear, we would not need attorneys. LOL It’s all subject to interpretation. The subtitle is the is the law on driving signals in Maryland. I didn’t copy the whole code, or you would have been really confused.

  7. Puna says:

Damien! Your wife and I sound like birds of a feather! I like her.

  8. Puna says:

You are so right! Even if it’s not a law it’s at least a courtesy!

  9. Puna says:

Carol, thank you! But I’m still not sure if I have to use my blinker or not…what’s an “appropriate signal?” And what’s the subtitle? I’m still confused.
