It's Friday! – Wonder Girl

It’s Fix-It Friday over at iheartfaces.com. I love this challenge. It’s so appeals to the geek/artist in me. Taking a photo and playing with it all day is a sick addiction. I don’t know why I do it. It’s a good thing I have this blog or else I’ll be doing it alone, in the dark, where no one can see. Thanks to the ladies over at iHeart Faces, my addiction is bared to the world.

The Wonder Girl After

wondergirl2

The Wonder Girl Before.

Here goes…

TRA2 – Pool Party (one of my favorite actions)
Ctrl M – lightened the photo (quite a lot)
PW’s – Define and Sharpen
TRA2 – Smooth-O-Matic
Ctrl J – to duplicate the layer just in case I messed up the next step, which I did.
PS2 – Clone tool (got rid of the little blemish on her forehead)
Lowered opacity to 72% to blend in the cloned area a little more. Good thing I duplicated the layer!
Flattened the image.
Took a soft brush and lightened under her left eye. It took me a couple of tries to get the right brush and hardness.
Then I played with hue/saturation and decided I just needed to stop.
I selectively cropped. Et Voila!

Find TRA2 here.
Find PW here (although I’m sure everyone who got this far in the post knows that.)

Now I’m going to critique my own photo. I do believe it’s too soft and needs to be defined a little more. But then I could be here all day! The resolution is slightly off because I had to re-size for the blog. But frankly, I’m not sure how to fix that so there you go. Too much fun to be had and not enough time.

Go find out what all the fuss is about over at iheartfaces.com.

I love your photo, it is very soft and glamorous and I am in no way saying that cause you take a liking to military wives :) I really do like it! Thank you by the way

It has a very cool, ocean colors type feel to it. Very pretty and soft. We need to start an addict’s support group. :)

  3. Teresa says:

I love the colors, too. And I like the softness…with this photo, I think the softness adds to the feeling. Beautiful work!

  4. Melinda says:

Beautiful post processing job and thanks so much for the step by step instructions…very helpful for those of us who are still trying to learn Photoshop : )

  5. Kristyn says:

Very nice – I’m sending all of my photos of myself to you for editing!

  6. I think that masking out all or most of the applied layers in the eyes to keep them sharp would have made this image just about perfect. Still, it’s a great job you did.

Truthfully, I don’t know exactly what those actions do so it may have been impossible to apply my thoughts or idea to the image anyway.

  7. Part of the problem is that I accidentally uploaded the smaller version of this photo to our flickr group – I am so sorry about that! (The larger version is now in our flickr group.)

I think you did a beautiful job with this. It’s so fun seeing my daughter’s face “fixed up” all over the web. :) Great job!

Great job with the edit… I love the blur

  10. Puna, this looks great and I can always teach you about masking one day after you run me. Really like the after image.

  11. Kelly says:

Love this picture, almost feels snow & winter-like.
How did you use the TRA action in elements? I thought his actions were only for PS2 or higher?
    Sorry to be a bother…

  12. Kelly says:

Thanks Puna for the advice. I only have Elements, so that is what I am struggling to learna dn I have no idea how to do an action (or make my own) using this program. But it is exciting to learn how to make my photos pop, I love it. Especially using photos of my 3 girls!

  13. Puna says:

Kristyn, email me a photo of yourself. Seriously!

  14. Puna says:

Damien, once again – an honor. You are so right, when it comes to faces, it’s all about the eyes. Your site is a great resource. One of these days, I’m going to enter one of your contests…when I’m brave enough. Ok, masking, masking, masking…

  15. Puna says:

Hi Kelly! Wow, thanks for coming by, the TRA actions are not for Elements, I used all these actions in CS2. I only use Elements for certain things, when I get lazy, the actions are so nice. I know you can use actions in elements though it’s a little trickier. I’ll post something as soon as I get better at it!
