Blue Angels From A Boat ~ Remembering The Fallen

Yesterday we took our little boat out and sat off the coast to watch the Navy Blue Angels do their air show.

As I watched, I was overwhelmed with awe and pride. And as I sit here and write, I’m still awed.

It was the most incredible display of majestic power and just down-right incredible skill. The fact that we were so many other boats around us with American flags flying just added to the entire experience.

The best thing was watching the kids watch the show…

blueangels991

The kids were fascinated with the pilots’ skill and the planes’ agility.

On the way home the girl stated, “That’s going to be me, I’m going to be a Blue Angel. I want to fly upside-down over the water.”

The husband and I were slack-jawed. You know what? She’d make a great pilot. Just like her dad.

And the boys?

blueangels91

Well they were boys. And eating it up…

And there’s Miss Shannon. Say hi when you see her at the gym.

Here are your Blue Angels – two of them upside down.

blueangels992

They fly three feet apart wing-tip to wing-tip. It’s incredible.

Today I know how blessed…

blueangels95

…how absolutely blessed I am to be an American.

I know that it’s not sexy or touchy-feely to speak of patriotism, duty and obligation. But it is our duty today to remember the fallen.

    Puna,

As a veteran and current member of the military, Thank you for remembering the fallen brothers AND sisters….

It is the voice of the few who are heard the loudest and try to make it “not sexy or touchy-feely to speak of patriotism, duty and obligation. But it is our duty today to remember the fallen.” However we as the majority (and yes the majority of Americans feel a deep sense of patriotism) need to speak loud and firm as you have, for we are America and despite what others say, we are the greatest country on the planet in many ways. But we are no better than anyone else, we just hold ourselves to a higher standard. This standard is sometimes seen as arrogance, but I disagree, it is what our Forefathers expected of the country. Do not let the vocal minority overpower the (unfortunately) silent majority.

    God Bless us all,
    Dennis

Thank you for a great post — the Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds are exciting to see. And yes, we need to remember those who gave their life for our country but we also need to remember those who fought and came home — they are brave as well. And although they did not give the ultimate sacrifice, they did sacrifice a part of their lives for our country. I’m the proud daughter of a WW I vet and the wife of a Vietnam Vet. Luckily, all came home.

It is Dennis Young from Church, photographer friend on Face Book.

    Cheers!

You got some terrific shots! The water must have been calm. I remember the time we took our boat out there to watch the show. The water was so choppy, it was difficult to get pictures. And I tried to videotape….

  6. Puna says:

Absolutely! I’m burning one as I write. Thanks for coming with us. It was great fun.

  7. Puna says:

Dennis, I don’t know who you are, but I love you.

    Happy Memorial Day.

  8. Puna says:

Aha! One of these days we’ll have to meet in person:)

Thank you for your comment and yes, I always am grateful for those who came home. I’m a veteran and so is my husband. We love and respect our military. Have a wonderful Memorial Day.
