This week’s silhouette challenge on iheartfaces.com is one I almost sat out on again…until I remembered this photo.

It’s one of my favorites of the girl. She’s quite the fisherwoman.
Hop on over to iheartfaces to see the others. They are reallly good.

Diane Schuller, a photographer and bloggy friend from Canada sent this photo into Laura of Dolce Pics also of Canada. These Canadians, they stick together.

The before ~

The after ~
I was playing with this photo when I thought, “Hey, I think I see Diane.” And lo and behold, there she was, in her pajamas and boots at her dining area in her kitchen, taking a photo. Am I right Diane? Maybe they have an opening in the NCIS forensics lab.
I’m starting to get a reputation for the weird photo lady, I know it.
First Fish

Yesterday the husband and kids decided at the last minute to go fishing for a couple of hours.

The boy caught the first fish of the season. It’s big ‘un honey.

And the girl showing off her fish. She caught two at once with her little pink pole.
I just wanted this recorded for posterity sake.
RIP Timber

Yesterday our neighbors told us the dog’s friend, Timber died of bloat.

He ran around the neighborhood unsupervised, scared the little children, and pee-ed on people’s gardens.
But we loved him. He was a gentle spirit and when it snowed, we were bound to find him on our front yard.

The dog loved to play with him. I once saved him from being hauled away in the dog catcher’s truck…I just couldn’t let it happen.
I won’t miss that he rolls in cow manure and ends up on my back porch but I’ll miss his playfulness and gentleness. It’s no way for a dog to die. The kids are upset about it.

Good-bye Timber, we’ll surely miss you, you big lug.
A Rosey Outlook

My mother gave me this rose bush two years ago for my birthday. Some people find roses ordinary for their ubiquity. I don’t feel that way at all, I love them.
Today, Shutter Sisters has challenged us to add a shallow depth of field and a vignette in camera. Although I’ve done my share of laying on the ground with my camera, I find that I’m not that good yet so I’ve post-edited a faded vignette to this rose instead. Hope it still answers the challenge.
Waterfall Beef, Fresh Ingredients

These are the fresh ingredients you’ll need for the Waterfall Beef.
Red Onion
Cherry Tomatoes
Limes
Cilantro
Mint
Chili peppers

I love this cilantro. It smells heavenly.

The fresh mint, I love the smell. I breathe it in.

Thai chili peppers. You can use dried peppers, you can use McCormick’s peppers, or if you’re wimpy, don’t use any. But it won’t be the same.
Trust me. Go forth and shop.
Blue Angels From A Boat ~ Remembering The Fallen

Yesterday we took our little boat out and sat off the coast to watch the Navy Blue Angels do their air show.
As I watched, I was overwhelmed with awe and pride. And as I sit here and write, I’m still awed.

It was the most incredible display of majestic power and just down-right incredible skill. The fact that we were so many other boats around us with American flags flying just added to the entire experience.

The best thing was watching the kids watch the show…

The kids were fascinated with the pilots’ skill and the planes’ agility.

On the way home the girl stated, “That’s going to be me, I’m going to be a Blue Angel. I want to fly upside-down over the water.”
The husband and I were slack-jawed. You know what? She’d make a great pilot. Just like her dad.

And the boys?

Well they were boys. And eating it up…

And there’s Miss Shannon. Say hi when you see her at the gym.

Here are your Blue Angels – two of them upside down.

They fly three feet apart wing-tip to wing-tip. It’s incredible.

Today I know how blessed…

…how absolutely blessed I am to be an American.
I know that it’s not sexy or touchy-feely to speak of patriotism, duty and obligation. But it is our duty today to remember the fallen.

This is my mother, a first generation American, getting her hair done at a small business owned and operated by first generation Americans who came to this country in pursuit of a better life.
Happy Memorial Day for those who came before so that this dream can come true for so many.
I hope my mother still speaks to me after seeing this photo.

The Boating Season Begins

This was the last time we took the boat out last year. The boy and his friends found it a bit nippy to be boating in November.

Today, we took the boat out for the first time since then. We drove it down to see the Blue Angels do their show and we watched from the boat.

It was quite frankly, fantastic. Happy Memorial Day – early.
Always remember.
The Hostess Without The Mostest

Theresa is an old friend from high school. She came for a short visit last night. Really short.

Her friend Ruth came with her to keep her company. They were on their way to North Carolina too see a mutual friend. I didn’t go because, well, as we all know, I’m much too busy!
Ruth does a lot of knitting. Her fingers were flying.

They came, and this morning, after twelve short hours, they went on their way.

I made a big shrimp scampi dinner but they got here so late, they didn’t eat it. Nor did they eat the pie that I dropped earlier. The next morning they left without eating breakfast. Nobody leaves here without eating something…I’m losing my touch? Theresa accepted this cup of tea.
Thank goodness for that.
