The Mother Of All Yard Sales

The last couple of years, I was only able to drag out a few things to our community yard sale, then had to leave for soccer games/riding lessons etc and had to ask Neighbor Robin to watch/sell my things for me.

Last year the only thing I was able to get to the sale were the boy’s drums. He woke up and protested. Unfortunately they are still in the basement.
This year things went better. Here are some of the things that were up for sale.

Only kidding.

My grandmother’s wardrobe – please don’t think badly of me. I’ve had it in several homes and in at least three places in my current home and we just never clicked.

My really pretty but very impractical stool. One of the legs is broken, but I kept it all these years because the swan heads were so beautiful. Even though it’s been in the garage for a couple of years (therefore the really dirty fabric) I will still miss it. I bought it in Germany at a swap meet. Sigh.

My Japanese low table.

The couch was for sale, not my mother. The little baby next to her was going for cheap.

Lots of clothing – mostly the girl’s things. I’m not going to editorialize about how many clothes she has.

I opened up this tin and found these shell necklaces that I probably bought while in Hawaii in order to do some kind of shell project. Which of course, I never got around to doing.

Neighbors Eric and Liz went jogging by but never stopped.

They may have liked this table. I bought it at a Naked Furniture place in Hawaii and had them cut the legs down so I can sit on the couch and work on craft projects. I had grand visions of painting it, tiling it, decoupaging it and then just gave up…I am the queen procrastinator.

Neighbor Chris was attached to my dress form. He had all of three things to sell so he was out rummaging around in my things. I bought it on eBay with the thought that I could go to craft fairs with it to display all the wonderful things that I was going to make and sell on my table that I was going to paint/tile/decoupage.
I don’t know why I keep thinking that I am going to craft anything. I am a total crafting failure.
I have to get ready for church now. I’ll tell you how I made out tomorrow. I’ll give you a hint, after the yard sale, I went to a graduation party, then bought four big fat sirloin steaks and a bottle of wine for dinner. I’m not sure what Dave Ramsey would say about my stewardship abilities.

I’m thinking that I wish I had been to your garage sale!
Love your yard sale! I can totally relate to the whole craft procrastination thing. Life just keeps getting in the way! You totally had me going there with the photo of your dog. Just for a millisecond, but still. You got me!
Bet we could of got five bucks for that cute dog!
woah, I have one of those shell necklaces that you sent me from Hawaii when I didnt my states project in sixth grade. =]
Glad to see Nana wasn’t for sale,,,,and I hope you didn’t get rid of poor tuk, I bet many wanted to take him home, poor doggie!!! Hope you had a great day!
Love ya
Love the sofa and the dolls/forms!
Amy
Oh, I’d have taken the wardrobe…I hate to ask what you got for it. OTOH, I think Dave would be pleased. You made some money, but you were able to use it to bless your family…yeah, that works.
May I be your handmaiden, oh Queen? I’ll take the dog too ;D
Hello !
You are too cute, love your descriptions….I know all about buying stuff to make stuff and then never geting around to making it….lol ! I love Dave – we follow him too….I think Dave would say I have too much stuff…but wait…I pay for it in cash and always get a great deal ! Only a few more months and then will only owe on the home – Yeah !

Okay-I am having a very hard time with your yard sale items! Girl-I would paint that wardrobe black and add monograms to the detailed area, Or even add paper to the fronts of the doors, maybe cream, hmmmmm…and that stool-I would paint and recover it, recover the sofa, and do something fun and funky with the small form! Hard time here….I’m having a hard time here!
Hope you made out alright! I know someone would be ready to snatch those pieces right up.
Have a great week!
Misti
I hope you were able to sell everything. The worst part about garage sales is having to bring things back in the house.
i have a feeling you did really well at your garage sale. i really like your grandmother’s wardrobe. i would have a hard time getting rid of that piece.
Hahahah!! I love your comment about your mom and the baby!!
Nothing wrong with selling your grandma’s wardrobe. Better that it goes to someone who loves it and will give it a good new home
You have some really interesting pieces there — did you sell them all??
Kelly @ DesignTies
Oh my – that wardrobe – I’m with Misty -hard time here. How much did you sell it for?
Looks like you had a great yard sale. I don’t think I could have gotten rid of that gorgeous wardrobe. I would have painted it though
Toni
oh the wardrobe, I with you though!
happy yardsaling
Sarah
Oh Puna, you had some great things to sell! I bet all those wood pieces are gone for sure. Pretty armoire! Hope you did well & enjoyed that steak. I was laughing at your Dave Ramsey comment.
Actually, he belongs to my mother. And I was tempted:)
Okay, you can have the dog:)
I didn’t sell the wardrobe. It’s back in my garage…I guess it’s destined to be mine:)
I know, and my son knows all too well:)
Good for you! That’s awesome. I think it’ll be another 30 years before we own ours…contrary to what Dave says, he tells everyone to take out a 15 year mortgage didn’t he?
No Kelly, unfortunately, my garage is full again:)
Misti, I wish you lived nearby…I would have loved it if you had stopped by:)
