I’m Hooked on Boat Houses

During our trip to Hawaii last week (was it only last week?) we had a layover in Portland. During our little excursion around the area, we ran across this little community of homes. It’s a community of homes on the water. Float homes I think. Boat homes? Anyway, it was adorable.

The boy said that in the winter time, they have to Zamboni their yard. He’s funny. I miss him. I hope he finds his way to the bathroom alright in the dark while at camp.

The little boats parked at the dock are just so cute. What a way to live. And look at the flowers! Who says you can’t garden in the middle of a river?

I think some of these homes are bigger than mine, the one on land.

Look at that guy on the jet ski…how neat is this next to the shingled floating boat home. Or whatever it’s called.

Would the end home be considered on a cul-de-sac?

I think I could live on one of these homes in this cute community. It’s probably just as much work as a home on land, just different challenges. Could you?
Thank you Julia for hosting Hooked on Fridays at Hooked on Houses.

Great images. I had a friend who lived on a houseboat, and it was a little too much movement for me, but an ideal home for those that truly love the water. Don’t believe I’ve ever seen a little community like the one you found, thanks for sharing.
How does the sewer and water work? Looks like a fun way to live!
oh my gosh, I didn’t think of that! hmmm…
Beautiful shots!
They look like a lot of fun!!
I’d be willing to give it a try. Sleeping with a little rocking motion can be supreme.
before kids, me and hubby would have LOVED to lived like this!
Now,with 2 little ones, it would be great to vacation for a week or two…
Great photos!
What a fantastic little community!! Such a unique way of life
As you said, it probably has its challenges, but probably not any more than in land houses, just different ones. How funny that they Zamboni their yards in the winter!!
I love being by and in the water, so yes, I could definitely live in a float/boat house
Have fun creating your daughter’s zebra room
I hope you’ll join us for Rewid Wednesdays next week

Oh, I think I could go for this! I love to garden, but hey, I could do that too. Thanks for sharing this sweet community!

Oh, wow. If these aren’t the greatest!! If they can be in Portland with cold, wet weather almost year round, why aren’t they in nicer climates? Like Chicago…
I’m not sure what the boy meant by how they get about in the winter. I wouldn’t care. I’d hook my dog up to a sled.
Great pics!! Your running commentary made me smile!

Vacation, yes – Live there, no. I’m too much of a wimp! I’d be thinking “What if a storm blows the houses around? Is it like Bumper *House* Boats?”
I don’t think I would like living there. I can’t swim, so I’d constantly be worrying about fall overboard from my house!
Oops, that would be falling.
LOVE THESE!!! Wow. What a cool place. And yes, I could definitely live here. I’ve written about a beautiful house boat on my blog in the past, link is http://imahouseaholic.com/?p=565 if you’re interested. It’s much smaller than these beauties though.
Love these – would love one for a holiday, but not sure I want want one full time.
Did Tom Hanks have one of these in Sleepless in Seattle?
Hi from N Ireland.
