A Frog & A Dog & A Rhyme

The day is full of loveliness
And divine intervention too
For it’s the moments of forgetfulness
That brings space for a thought or two
And then there’s the world
Where curiosity reigns
And creatures who are not like us
Leaves us grounded again
Original poem by Puna @ LifeSignatures
I almost forgot to post today. Therefore the moment of forgetfulness.
I will never make it in the history books as a great poet. And if you are of a serious disposition, you may not like my space. Because I am free to post bad but original poetry that I just made up a moment ago here.
But I’m serious tomorrow. I have something serious to discuss with you. It’s about the recent health care debate.
Oh, and happy, happy birthday ELK.

I really only see Uncle Ed’s farm once a year.

And every year I look forward to visiting.

It’s one of my favorite places in the whole world.
Until next year.

The Show-Down

Tuk Tuk has never known fear in his short life.

So he takes chances that he shouldn’t take.

I watched the scene before me unfold.

Actually, I could have stopped it but I didn’t.

I wanted to see what would happen. But if the situation were to deteriorate, I of course would step in to save the little bugger.

But you know what? Nothing happened. Baby watched the machinations for a few minutes, then got up and walked away. Like it was a stroll in the park.
Sorry for the anti-climatic finish. What did you expect? Blood and gore? You should be ashamed of yourselves.

iHeartFaces ~ Nostalgia

What can be more nostalgic than the woman who married the husband and me 17 years ago?

I’m posting this entry for iHeartFaces weekly competition, the theme is nostalgia. She is more at home in her little house with all her mementos than anywhere else so I included her surroundings in the photo.
She is now 93. What a lady.
First Day of School `09-10

Some things never change.

But then again, some things do.
I said to Neighbor Cory, “Are you going into 7th grade now?”
He answered politely, “No Miss Puna, I’m going into 9th grade.”
Yikes, he was seven years old yesterday.

Neighbor Nick is going into middle school for the first time. It was an early wake up.

And an early wake up as well as for the high schoolers.

And in spite of their embarrassment, I love the “Getting On The Bus On The First Day Of School” photos.
Sigh. What am I going to do with myself? That my darlings, is a rhetorical question.
Monday Memories ~ Young Thai Lady

This was my mother when she was a teenager. I think perhaps she was 16 or 17 years old. It was taken in her hometown in northern Thailand. She is dressed in Thai silk. I don’t know what the occasion was, but I’m so glad I have it.

She is shown here in the middle. The lady to the right is her aunt but the lady on the left is a stranger to me. The are standing in front of a Thai buffet. I use a rice keeper just like this for my sticky rice.
Where ever I travel and where ever I live, I still feel such a kinship to that land where my history began. One day it will be a joy to travel back to see it again.

Get Totally Rad Dirty Pictures – Get It Now!
Good news. The folks who made my absolutely favorite actions/plugin set of all time is releasing a new plugin set and we can win it before it goes v-i-r (the V word) and released to the general public.
Those of you who have been reading my blog for a while know that I love Doug Boutwell, and I love the Get Totally Rad actions and I use them all the time. All the time!
My parents gave me their second action set as a Christmas present, isn’t that sweet? I’m not sure if they knew what they were buying me but it was one of the best gifts I ever received!

Here’s one where I used their action to give this barn an illustrated look.
I also love dissecting their plugins…ssshhh…I do it to as a learning tool for Photoshop. I’ve never taken a photoshop class you see…
Check it out on their blog…the deadline is tonight…I actually started this post a few days ago and just now finished it…sorry for the late notice! Go there, go there now!
Have fun!
Collecting Unemployment, Tucker Style

I’m a housewife first and foremost. My joy is spending time in my home, cooking, taking care of my family, helping with homework…ya di ya di da.
But sometimes, one needs to get out of the house once in a while. So for kicks I got a part-time job as an IT manager. In an office. For the best boss in the entire world. In the ENTIRE world. She’s the best.
And I hope that I will still have a job after this post.
That’s Tucker in the above photo. He came to the office to visit while the boss was out last week.

He belongs to Miss Jackie, my roommate in the office. It wasn’t take-your-dog-to-work day. It was just a nice reprieve from constantly fixing things that break. Miss Jackie is a gorgeous, sweet, smart girl who is starting a masters program at Georgetown this fall.

And she’s a minx. A trouble maker.

While the boss was out, we thought it would be fun to let Tucker see what her office looked like. We wouldn’t do that while she was in…she doesn’t like animals. This way, she can’t object.

Miss Jackie thought it would be a great idea to get Tucker to sit in her leather chair.

Tucker didn’t like the idea so Miss Jackie got him a treat.

Then when that didn’t work, she decided to encourage him a little bit.

Miss Frances had to help because Tucker is one big dog.

So Tucker then becomes the boss.
Despite the little voice in my head that said, “Don’t do it.”
And in spite of the husband’s sage advice, “If you even have a small doubt about it, don’t do it.”
I’m doing it. I’m putting the photo up on our website. It will be the first time that the boss realizes that there was a dog in her office and on her desk while she was out.
Lord, please let me have a job tomorrow…
August 23, Psalm 4:1

I may be in the minority but I believe that sometimes, funerals can be a joyous occasion. Funerals are more for the people who are left behind, and if those left behind feel a sense of closure, then funerals are truly a celebration of a life well lived.
The funeral I had to attend last week however, was anything but joyous. It is painful when someone inexplicably takes their own life, a young man of 39 who leaves a wife and three children. Once of which is six weeks old.
He also leaves many questions and much heart-ache at the loss and circumstances surrounding his death.
So amongst the family celebrations that encompassed my week last week, there was this…an aching heart-ache.
There was one among my IT team who was most affected for they were friends and very emotionally attached. So I sent this passage to the team along with a request for prayer.
“Answer me when I call to you,
O my righteous God.
Give me relief from my distress;
be merciful to me and hear my prayer.”
Psalm 4:1
There are not many answers on this side of life. But there is acceptance in knowing that one day we will know…
