A Vision & A Verb Photo Contest

As a child, I was a great fan of literature and poems. I don’t read the classics much anymore, please tell me I’m not the only one.
Not having television in my own native language as a child gave me a lot of time to explore Voltaire, Chaucer and Shakespeare. I can’t say I understood all of what I read. I only know that I found most of the prose beautiful.
There is some that “stuck” with me because our English teacher insisted on memorization. I still think that repetition can lead to understanding and appreciation of what we are learning. As a result of that, I can still recite a lot of what I was exposed to. There are some poems that I found so beautiful that they have become a part of me. The poem, Trees, by Joyce Kilmer is one them. I don’t know why I love it so much, I just do.
So I’m using it along with this photo of a weeping willow as my entry into the Vision & Verb photo contest, found here. Contests ends August 18.
Please consider entering also! The prize is fantastic but I also love reading all of the wonderful prose written by sage and creative writers and poets. So go to the Vision & Verb facebook wall and enter now!

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day, And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
Joyce Kilmer
