No Rest For The Weary

wearyOr perhaps it’s more accurate to say there’s no rest for the old and weary like me.

Today is the girl’s first B Team meet of a very long equestrian season.

weary2Hockey season is just over. It’s nice to be young isn’t it? The meet will be an all day affair. It will make me wish for those hour long field hockey games.

I started yesterday with the shopping and cooking for the concession stand. I am excited to find a way of serving French onion soup, I practiced it all day yesterday in my kitchen. It’s the small things that get me through.

And I’ll need those distractions. The boy coached his last soccer game yesterday, but wrestling practice starts next week. And so it continues…

weary1 I just like this photo. All the girls have their mouth guards in and it looks so funny. Once again, I need to find the humorous along the way . . .

It’s Halloween today, in case you have forgotten:)

Thanks for listening.

shasta1Lisa of goodknits.com! The answer of course is Mt. Shasta.  Congratulations Lisa! You not only knit like a professional but your photos, oh my goodness gracious they are beautiful.

Since there were only six entries, I asked the boy to pick a number between 1 and 6 and he said 7. I should have expected nothing less. Anyway, you won on the redo.

martha3Congratulations on winning this beautiful Martha Stewart chick dish from my basement. You can put gravy in it and put it in the oven. What can be better? I hope you enjoy it.

I’m going to revisit my knitting this winter. If it’s not too uncomfortable, send me an email and let me know what your snail mail is and I’ll send it tout suite!

Who Else Am I Voting For?

This is for local politics so it may be boring for most of you. I know that politics in general may be too controversial for some of you but please do your duty anyway; it’s important.

politics4I”m voting for this lady. Her name is Susan Shaw (R). This is an easy vote for me. I know her, like her, and like her love and passion for our community. She’s an advocate for maintaining the rural nature of our county. I am too. It’s easy because I’ve voted for her for before – a few times. It funny how we lean on what we know. Human nature is that way. I also love her voice. It’s kind of high and squeaky, just like mine. Do I agree with everything she stands for?

Well no…

Which is why I’m also voting for this lady.

vote1Her name is Barbara Stinnet (D). At this forum she said she would stand in front of a bulldozer for what she believes in. I would do that too. She is also a huge advocate of charity and is on the right side of an issue that I personally have a vested interest in. She swore that our church food pantry will remain open as long as she can do something about it. So she has my vote. Thanks for standing up Barbara! And stand in front of that bulldozer!

I hope these two ladies continue to duke it out, I think it will benefit our community.

register3I am however, disappointed that my friend Nick Garrett is no longer running. He pulled out of the race this summer. I was distraught, but it’s his decision and his reasons were sound. I just think we lost a great public servant.

Three more to go . . . tell you about it this weekend if I have time:)

oct29I hope your weekend is as spook free but fun. In lieu of our new financial awareness, I brought our Halloween costumes back to the store and told the kids to get creative. Can’t wait to see what they come up with. If they decided to dress up, I’ll post it of course.

I can’t wait to see how Neighbor Ted will celebrate this year. I really hope it’s not as a hula girl. Really . . .

I used Topaz Adjust Dark-Ghostly filter on the above photo. It’s seemed appropo today.

Up From The Basement

horsehead1I’m up from my basement and look what I found.

It’s a horse skull that was painted and decorated by an artist from an American Indian tribe who’s name now eludes me.

horsehead2We bought it on our way to Sedona, Arizona about 12 years ago. At the time it seemed like a good idea. We lived in the Southwest so we wanted a Southwest memoir to hang on our wall.

horsehead3Now I wonder what we were thinking.

Interesting huh?

Maybe I’ll have another giveaway:) Speaking of giveaways, you can get something else from my basement here . . . the giveaway ends this weekend.

And if you are really curious about what I’m doing in my basement, I explained here, I’m not sure the sale of the above will pay my tax bill but then again, I wanted it at one time.

Okay, back to the dungeon I go . . .

October 28, Carolina On My Mind

sc1I almost always sleep on night flights. I do that to make the flight go faster and ignore that fact that I sit closer to strangers on an airplane than I do my own sister on the couch.

But then I miss sights like this, the moon’s reflection on the water. This is the coast of South Carolina, and the little jewel of lights of the city plays a wonderful supporting role to the light provided by God’s moon.

It’s Thursday! Unlike on most Thursdays, I feel like I accomplished a lot this week. What a nice change.

oct26aMy eye kept going to these twisted vines. It reminds me that life is a crooked path but still it’s beautiful.

This templating Photoshop action is from CoffeeShop. She is incredibly talented. I did a little creative combination with her Web Diptych 2 template.

Happy Mosaic Monday on a wet rainy Wednesday!

And then there’s Friday…yeah!

This spider web literally glowed in the bright sunlight. It was a great image to use for editing with Topaz Adjust.

The Easiest & Most Delicious Steak Marinade

October 25, 2010 by Puna

I long, long time ago, I was deployed to Bitburg Germany.

This fact is pertinent because it was the first time that I remember someone asking me about this marinade. I was slightly taken aback because I didn’t consider myself a good cook. Frankly I never thought I had a cooking technique that anyone might be interested in. I was young and just out of college and trying to live on Ramen soup and Korean street food. It wasn’t until I moved to Germany that I started cooking for myself in the same vein as my mother because with the exception of fests, there is no such thing as German street food.

On this deployment, we had a little grill and our  small group of deployed and sad individuals – me included – would on occasion cook something other than MREs. Everyone brought their own steak to grill I, being the lone female in a group of men, brought enough to share.

I marinaded my steak in this simplest of  recipes and the guys were gaga over it. I was close to having several marriage proposals that night because of my steak. But I was already engaged.

Anyway . . .

Here’s the marinade that made the men go crazy. And it’s so simple.

You will need three things:

steak4

1. Soy Sauce

steak52. Lemon Pepper

steak13. A steak

steak2Pour the soy sauce over the steak to cover. Sprinkle lemon pepper on both sides to cover.

Let stand for about 10 minutes.

steak3

Grill to your liking.

That’s it! Simple! And delicious. Much better than MREs!

Bon appetite!

The subject is common, the composition is just so-so, but the green reminds me that this is a fresh and new week on this Monday morning.

It is why it’s my favorite color.

For Best Shot Monday.
