Thank goodness for small favors. I thought a nice simple shot of some simple pretty flowers will give me a much needed mental break.
It works:)
The Difference Between The Two –

Having a child of both genders can really heighten one’s awareness of the difference between the sexes.
I really like hanging out with the boy’s guy friends. They have me in stitches. Literally. Here they are hamming it up for me. “Mom take a picture.” Makes me laugh.
There seems to be some shall I say, drama with girls. Girls seem to take perceived slights pretty personally – at least with my girl.
Boys in general seem a little more accepting of each other. Boys seem to let things go and move on very quickly – at least with my boy.
I know I’m generalizing hereĀ so please don’t send any comments about that.
This thought crossed my mind more than once this weekend because the husband and I were in the throes of teenage life – birthdays, sleep-overs, concert, and hockey games. And you couldn’t turn around without bumping into a hormone induced teenager. We love it.
Those of you with young kids – this is a look into the future. And it’s really good so don’t worry:)
iHeart Faces – Anything But A Face

I went to a concert last weekend. It was fantastic experience, the music, the dancing – the sixteen hormone induced teens with us.
I have a lot of photos but I thought I’d put this one up for consideration at iHeartfaces’ Anything But Faces challenge this week.
I saw the raised hands and turned my camera to the crowd.

February 27, Especially Today

I’ve been busy -
– busy celebrating a little girl’s 15th birthday . . .
What can be more special for a little girl than to be serenaded by her brother and his pesky friends while they sing happy birthday to her after they have sucked helium.
There are times when I’m exasperated with this age – as you well know.
And there are times like this weekend – when I wouldn’t trade places with anyone in the world.
Happy birthday little girl.
The Color Wheel

This was the color in the girl’s room before.
It was a beautiful pink/purple/mauve – like shade. It was her favorite color. Even Joker has a purple saddle pad. It’s a little stronger in these photos because I boosted the saturation a little bit.
Hi Neighbor Jim.
And here is the beautiful new pool blue shade. Once again, I boosted the color a little so you can see well. It’s very light and with her dark floors, it’s very sophisticated.
Here’s a long look. Neighbor Jim put in crown molding yesterday and I’ll show you soon. It looks gorgeous. Really gorgeous.
The girl came home the other day and stood in her disassembled room for about 20 minutes, just taking it in. She’s very excited.
And I’m excited for her.

February 25, Raining Roses

I am posting the pretty rose that the husband gave the girl for Valentine’s Day in advance of the rainy weather today.
I also have an entire day of work planned in front of the computer. I hope to visit you for mental breaks. And I am bringing a very comfortable pillow to the office to support my bottom. My office chair leaves something to be desired.
Happy Friday!
Team Up Thursday ~ In The Distance

Kristina and I are playing today! She’s been so patient with me. After a couple weeks of feeling like a wrinkled old leftover burrito, I finally feel like a human again.
This week’s theme is in the distance. Kristina’s photo is of her trip to Las Vegas. It actually looks like Seattle to me but this is a great big country and I’m sure there’s more than one Space Needle. After all, there’s an Eiffel Tower in Vegas also.
My photo is of the beach in the winter, the snow, then the shells, then the water in the distance.

February 24, The Store

The Apple store is always so full of people, all leaned over various electronic gadgets. I admit I get caught up as well but am not a proud owner of iPad myself. After the girl’s room is remodeled, I think I’ll consider it. I’m sure by then I’ll be two generations behind.
As geeky as I am, I don’t get too caught up in the yearly gadget craze. I actually just regressed to my old phone and will be giving up my data plan soon. I’m not purposefully bucking the trend. I lost my Droid somewhere in the universe. I say, “Oh well.” I felt a little like a prisoner to the phone. I would ding every time I received an email or a facebook post. It was driving me slightly batty.
Strangely enough, being disconnected allows me to be more in the moment. I’d rather just talk to you:)
It’s Alright To Change Your Mind

This my dears, is the newest and almost final version of what Neighbor Corinne’s kitchen is going to look like. I’m really excited about her remodel. I’m living vicariously through her.
What’s changed? Everything.
- The appliances are now stainless steel rather than black (good call)
- The floor is darker (it’s quite light in the above depiction)
- The countertops are lighter
- The stone wall is now lighter (because the countertops are lighter)
Neighbor Corinne found the beautiful lights and decided she needed to go a little more contemporary with the stove hood.
I really like it, perhaps even better than the earlier drawing shown here.
I was at Neighbor Corinne’s house on Monday night and snapped a quick photo of her floors. They were gorgeous but you can’t really see the true color in this photo. It was night time, I’ll have to go back during the day.
They are a porcelain ceramic tile. She decided again slate which would have given it a very rustic look but slate is a little more maintenance.
I like that her floors are darker. I think it was a good idea to lighten up the countertops for some contrast.
She is going from a single incandescent light to well, a lot of lights. I love the pendants she chose, they remind me of my own green pendants.
I haven’t heard from her in a couple days. I wonder if the cabinets are here. Time to take another trip to her house:)
