December 1, The Corner

When I was in high school, the corner of Freddie’s Market was a hang-out for kids. It’s still there and I snapped a photo while we were visiting home over Thanksgiving. We would say, “I’ll see you at the corner at 7.” “Are you going to the corner tonight?”
We would meet up and just do nothing. We weren’t destructive so to use the word “juvenile” wouldn’t be accurate. Today, the kids just text each other constantly so there is no need to meet at “the corner.”
It’s amazing how social norms have changed. The jury is still out as to whether or not it’s a good or bad change.
I’m just old fashioned I guess…
