Thoughts On Arranged Marriages

This is my girl. She’s pretending to fall down the hill of rocks. I don’t know the reason for this odd occurrence, I just found it on my camera download.
The girl was filling out a volunteer application last week and asked me this odd question – to accompany the odd photo I suppose.
“Mom, am I single, married, divorced or widowed?”
I was quite perplexed so I said, “Huh?”
She said, “It’s in the application and I’m in a relationship so I don’t know what to put.”
At which point I started to laugh and I said, “Are you serious? Does it have a spot for “It’s complicated?”
It’s the facebook generation.
So yes, she’s “In a relationship” which now gives me the license to say what I’m going to say next.
I was at a wrestling match with LCAT Chris’s mom last night. He’s the cute boy shown above. She turned to me and said, “(The girl) is so pretty. I asked Chris if she was dating anyone and he told me that she was dating (the boyfriend).”
I said yes, she was, but then I confessed to her that at one time, not too long ago, I was hoping that the girl would date her son. He’s such a good kid from a really nice family and look at that smile. Braces and all. He would be the one with whom I would arrange the marriage. But we don’t do that in Maryland. Too bad.
I never said anything to them about it – for obvious reasons, but since LCAT Chris was such a good friend of the boy’s, I did tell the boy about it. And now I’m telling you. And I told his mother last night. But we can’t choose our kids’ friends and we definitely can’t choose their boyfriends.
I would tell you about the boyfriend but I know I’m not allowed. I will say that he’s on the soccer team and the first time I met him I said, “Now in soccer, you use your feet right?”
I think we’re off to a good start.
He hasn’t even been over to the house yet. Maybe he’s scared. Maybe he thinks I don’t know nothing ’bout soccer and he’d be right.
Can you tell I’m dying to tell you all about it? But I won’t – not yet anyway:)
