jan31The promise of a new day is – without exception – the most beautiful thing of all…

January 30, Big Red Barn

jan30It’s Instagram Monday! Better known as “I Didn’t Download My Weekend Photos Monday.”

This barn was big and imposing and I wasn’t sure how to capture it well. The composition aside – the scale of the barn to the girls shows its size quite well.

I love Instagram! Happy, happy Monday!

January 27, City Life

jan27I love to live in the country but I love to visit the hustle and bustle of city life. I just have to remember to take more photos while I’m there.

It’s Friday and my to-do list for the weekend is long. I pledge to trim my rose bushes while the weather is balmy, to get a really good P90X abdominal workout in on Saturday (tomorrow), to cook a really fantastic Sunday night meal, to take a really long walk with my dog who deserves it, and to solve the very real crisis of dissolving world peace among rogue and established nations.

Someone’s gotta do it. How about you?

jan26I don’t know what this says but I read it like a fortune cookie, “Peace, joy and prosperity will be yours.”

Happy Thursday!

January 24, Speaking In Different Tongues

jan24I feel comfortable in situations where I don’t understand the language and I’m sure it’s because I spent most of my childhood in countries where many different languages were spoken. I didn’t always understand the words, but I always tried to make sense of the context, through hand gestures and smiles.

So I love signs like this – a little bit of this and a little bit of that and even if we don’t understand the language we understand the meaning. And this meansĀ  – food! Now you’re talkin’.

January 23, Horses In Winter

It’s Instagram Monday! It’s deemed so today because I haven’t yet downloaded any photos from this weekend and Instagram makes it so easy! This smart phone app has its detractors, but it’s a lot of fun and easy – and free.

jan28There was a lot going on this weekend…so much competition. Newt Gingrich wins the South Carolina primary, Giants win the NFC, Patriots win the AFC, our very won Oakcrest team loses to another farm in the horsey meet. There were some tears all around some of joy, some not.

These horses were out in the cold this weekend – along with all the girls and their support. I spent a lot of time in the car with the engine running but I saw these horses in the field and decided to brave the cold. I hope horses fare better in the cold than people do…

January 20, Reflections

jan19It wasn’t until I was in my 30’s that I started really looking at myself in the mirror. I was a very self-conscious teenager and I was never one to primp in front of the mirror for hours. It would take me about 15 minutes to get ready for school and styling my hair meant combing it before I left for the bus stop with soaking wet hair, even in the winter.

I always felt the ugly duckling.

I credit time, age and my husband for making me feel more comfortable in my own skin. And now in my 40’s I’m starting to feel fabulous! Yes, I wish I had my 20 year old body, but who doesn’t? Here’s to looking in the mirror – and really seeing your the true reflection of yourself.

January 18, For The People

jan18Just like so many Federal holidays, Martin Luther King Day came and went without barely a wink and a nod.

However, there are some out there who acknowledged that day by quoting him. I believe except for Abraham Lincoln, he is one of the most eruditeĀ  individuals in history.

I kept seeing wonderful quotes by him and I thought I’d start collecting.

Some of my favorites -

“I have decided to stick with love, hate is too great a burden to bear.”

“If today’s Church doesn’t recapture the sacrificial spirit of the early Church… it’ll be dismissed as an irrelevant social club.”

A man who won’t die for something is not fit to live.”

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

Have a wonderful Wednesday . . .

January 17, Good-Bye Christmas

whatwedidOur Christmas decorations went back into their packing bins yesterday. Yes, I know, it’s about time. These little men are treasured ornaments from Germany, purchased long ago and cherished many years since. I can’t imagine a Christmas without seeing their funny faces and quirky accessories.

Good-bye Christmas memories – until next year.
