Trench Warfare & Christmas Time

One of my favorite Christmas stories ever is a true one. Please forgive me because I’m going by memory. I’m not googling it.
During World War I, the world was at war and the Allie and German troops were conducting trench warfare somewhere in France. On Christmas Day, they put down their arms and celebrated Christmas together. Some people would rather emaphasize the fact that they then went back to warring with each other after that. But I like to take away the fact that there will always be difference, and disputes and well – war.
But on that one day, there was peace. And the peace was bigger than man, country and war. And it came from a place that is not of this earth. Now that’s the true story of Christmas.
We’re on our way home from my parents’ house. I hope that cat and dog are as peaceful with us and each as they were on our way up here.
I may post again when I get home today. For some reason I’m feeling chatty.
The Brave & The Rest

Sometimes, a photograph can really show us in our best light. Take the dog here. She looks alert, strong, ready to take on the world. She looks like she wants to go hunting. Like a real hunting dog should be.
But that’s just because I’m a good photographer, hehehehehe.

Here she is – in her true light. Her real self. She’s a chicken, the most timid dog you will ever see.

I really don’t blame her. I don’t like going to see the doctor either. This reminds me of the gynecologist’s office by the way…eeek.

And so because she refused to get up on the table, the vet and her assistant just did the exam on the floor. Poor baby.

Oh how pathetic.

And because she is such a sweet dog, she patiently sat through all kinds of undignified poking and prodding.

Hey, I love getting a manicure.

She had a very nice doctor…and she would sit through anything for a cookie.
She’s okay, nothing that a little bit of Prednisone and antibiotics won’t cure. We have to medicate for the next 24 days. Poor chicken.
Tomorrow, I’m going to show the boy in his real light too…should be fun. Just keeping it real.
Big Dog, Small Dog

I had the honor of baby-sitting little Zoe last weekend for a couple of days. The dog was not thrilled with another little dog visiting. There is no peace for her when little licky dogs come over.

It has me thinking. Are big dogs out of fashion? There seems to be a lot more little dogs running around, especially in my family, namely Tuk Tuk, Willow and Tula. And there’s Shadow across the street. And oh, and the infamous Pete. Then there’s Zoe who is smaller than all of them and insists on sitting on my lap every minute of the day.

Me? I like big dogs…nothing personal Zoe. I just need my lap back now.
The Show-Down

Tuk Tuk has never known fear in his short life.

So he takes chances that he shouldn’t take.

I watched the scene before me unfold.

Actually, I could have stopped it but I didn’t.

I wanted to see what would happen. But if the situation were to deteriorate, I of course would step in to save the little bugger.

But you know what? Nothing happened. Baby watched the machinations for a few minutes, then got up and walked away. Like it was a stroll in the park.
Sorry for the anti-climatic finish. What did you expect? Blood and gore? You should be ashamed of yourselves.
Collecting Unemployment, Tucker Style

I’m a housewife first and foremost. My joy is spending time in my home, cooking, taking care of my family, helping with homework…ya di ya di da.
But sometimes, one needs to get out of the house once in a while. So for kicks I got a part-time job as an IT manager. In an office. For the best boss in the entire world. In the ENTIRE world. She’s the best.
And I hope that I will still have a job after this post.
That’s Tucker in the above photo. He came to the office to visit while the boss was out last week.

He belongs to Miss Jackie, my roommate in the office. It wasn’t take-your-dog-to-work day. It was just a nice reprieve from constantly fixing things that break. Miss Jackie is a gorgeous, sweet, smart girl who is starting a masters program at Georgetown this fall.

And she’s a minx. A trouble maker.

While the boss was out, we thought it would be fun to let Tucker see what her office looked like. We wouldn’t do that while she was in…she doesn’t like animals. This way, she can’t object.

Miss Jackie thought it would be a great idea to get Tucker to sit in her leather chair.

Tucker didn’t like the idea so Miss Jackie got him a treat.

Then when that didn’t work, she decided to encourage him a little bit.

Miss Frances had to help because Tucker is one big dog.

So Tucker then becomes the boss.
Despite the little voice in my head that said, “Don’t do it.”
And in spite of the husband’s sage advice, “If you even have a small doubt about it, don’t do it.”
I’m doing it. I’m putting the photo up on our website. It will be the first time that the boss realizes that there was a dog in her office and on her desk while she was out.
Lord, please let me have a job tomorrow…

My SOOC Saturday contribution. It’s been fun having Tuk Tuk here the last couple of days. He loves the cat door.

Here’s magnificent and photogenic Sheba for the pets category from iHeartfaces.com this week.
I just love it when they have a pet category!
RIP Timber

Yesterday our neighbors told us the dog’s friend, Timber died of bloat.

He ran around the neighborhood unsupervised, scared the little children, and pee-ed on people’s gardens.
But we loved him. He was a gentle spirit and when it snowed, we were bound to find him on our front yard.

The dog loved to play with him. I once saved him from being hauled away in the dog catcher’s truck…I just couldn’t let it happen.
I won’t miss that he rolls in cow manure and ends up on my back porch but I’ll miss his playfulness and gentleness. It’s no way for a dog to die. The kids are upset about it.

Good-bye Timber, we’ll surely miss you, you big lug.
He’s Strange

Pete is strange.

But he’s loyal. He tried to bit a volunteer one day because she touched the sister.
I don’t think the volunteer has been back.

Yet he’ll let the boy do this to him.
Strange.
Kiji Update 2

Isn’t this sad? We really try to treat our guests better than this.
I should clean this window.

Well as it turns out…Kiji finished hers in two minutes.

And gets the prime spot on the couch while the dog gets the floor.

And Big Daddy hasn’t been able to sit on his chair for about a week.
I hope Neighbor Suzanne is having a good time in Disney for spring break. We’ll try to treat Kiji better next time.
